Winter is approaching and it’s going to get cold in Columbus, OH! Here are some helpful hints to help you stay warm when the cold temperatures strike.

  1. Reverse your Ceiling Fans:

It’s not a myth! Reversing your fan in the winter really does help keep the warm air from rising – which keeps your home warmer.

  1. Check Windows and Doors for Gaps:

If there are any gaps in the seals around your doors or windows, cold air is going to seep in and your heater is going to have to work harder to keep you warm this winter. One of two gaps can be fixed with caulk if necessary, however if you notice multiple gaps in your frames, it may be a good time to go ahead and get some new doors and new windows. 1. Replace your Screen Doors with Storm Doors:

Screen doors are great for spring and summer, but they aren’t very winter friendly. Keep your house warm by switching out your screen doors for storm dorms during the cold months.

  1. Shut Off Exterior Faucets:

Water freezes whether you know it’s there or not. Make sure all your exterior faucets are cleared of any leftover water and shut them off to avoid bursting a pipe.

  1. Clean Your Gutters and Extend Your Downspouts:

You’ll save yourself a lot of trouble if you clean out your gutters before they start to fill with snow. Also make sure to extend your downspouts (if they aren’t already) to about 5ft away from your home to avoid any flooding.

Summer was great, but with winter approaching in the next few months, it’s a perfect time to start thinking about the little things you can do to make sure you protect your home and keep your family warm.
